The test involved uplink CA and 64 quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM); demonstrating a 180% increase in uplink rate for an enhanced user upload experience.
Uplink CA is an LTE-Advanced technology, and the trial proves its ability to significantly increase uplink data rate; bringing the technology one step closer to commercialisation.
With an increased uplink data rate, practical applications include picture and video sharing by end-users, as well as video surveillance, telemedicine and shoot-and-transmit for enterprise users.
China Mobile is already upgrading its Shenzen network to TDD LTE-A by enabling the downlink CA, and the uplink CA is designed for seamless adoption via a software upgrade, meaning operators do not need to acquire additional equipment.
In August last year, China Mobile and Huawei successfully deployed what was thought to be the world’s first LTE TDD 8T8R active antenna unit (AAU) in Hebei, China.
