Clatterbuck appointed SEACOM CEO

Byron Clatterbuck has been appointed chief executive at cable operator SEACOM.

An industry veteran, Clatterbuck replaces Mark Simpson who left the company a year ago to “pursue personal interests”, and leaves his existing role as chief commercial officer for the position.

SEACOM founder and executive director Brian Herlihy has led the company for the past 12 months and believes Clatterbuck’s appointment will help to lead the company through a “new era of growth”.

Having joined SEACOM in 2012, Clatterbuck holds more than 18 years’ experience in the global telecoms industry, including senior roles at Tata Communications, BT and Level 3.

“Africa is poised to be a key new growth driver for the global economy, and the development story of this decade, and I am pleased to have the opportunity to lend my international skills and experience to a developing company like SEACOM,” Clatterbuck said.

“Moreover, SEACOM has a solid global reputation for innovation, integrity and quality, and I look forward to leading the great team here during such an important time in SEACOM’s and Africa’s development.”

In June last year, SEACOM partnered with content-delivery company CDNetworks for the deployment of content clusters and caching nodes on its pan-African IP network in Tanzania.
