The move will see China Unicom provided with access to Tawasul’s MPLS network, which connects the Middle East, including all six GCC nations, Egypt, Iraq and Lebanon.
In return, Tawasul will be provided with access to China and other markets in the Asia-Pacific.
“This partnership is a major milestone on our path to establishing a strong foothold in the Asia-Pacific region,” said Salem Almulaifi, chief marketing and strategy officer at Tawasul. “It forms part of our ongoing expansion plan, complementing our strong coverage in the western markets.”
The partnership, which was signed at Capacity Middle East 2015 today, will support the growing business of Chinese enterprises in the Middle East, particularly in construction, oil & gas and manufacturing.
“We are exploring business opportunities in the emerging markets, particularly in the Middle East,” said Phyllis Yeung, VP of emerging markets, international carrier business department, China Unicom (Hong Kong).
“Tawasul plays an important role in the GCC, and we are very excited to be working with them.”
