The state-owned company is looking to create partnerships beyond the region in the Middle East, Asia and Africa.
“We want to find partners there that will allow us to collect traffic,” Tomšič told Capacity. The operator completed the construction of its regional fibre optic network in 2014 which, according to Tomšič, will help drive international wholesale revenue.
“The main point of our network is to bring IP transit at an affordable pricing and quality to our companies so they can compete,” said Tomšič at the annual Capacity Balkans conference, now in its 10th year.
Providing 4G LTE coverage will also be a priority for Telekom Slovenije this year. The company plans to extend its LTE network from 80% to 92% of the population by the end of 2015.
The operator is likely to be sold this year, with a binding offer from either Deutsche Telekom and UK-based private equity fund, Cinven, expected in April 2015.
Telekom Slovenije announced plans for the sale in October 2013 but has faced a series of delays due to changes in the country’s governmental structure.
