The SDN-enabled technology from Coriant is designed to upgrade Telefónica Germany’s mobile backhaul network, also integrating the O2 and E-Plus network infrastructure.
The Coriant solution is expected to help Telefónica Germany cost-effectively expand coverage across a range of mobile backhaul locations, as well as provide the foundation for easy and efficient bandwidth scalability as mobile data traffic increases.
Cayetano Carbajo, CTO at Telefónica Germany, said that a reliable and agile backhaul infrastructure was key to delivering a high-quality mobile data experience.
“We selected Coriant for this important project because of their demonstrated track record in helping service providers modernise mobile network infrastructure to support evolving service demands,” Carbajo said.
“We need the advanced capabilities and features of the Coriant IP/MPLS router portfolio as these will enable us to fully optimise network efficiencies and service performance across our converged network, from high-density aggregation sites to remote locations.”
In February this year, Coriant teamed up with Nokia to deploy what they claimed was the first ever intelligent self-organising network (SON) to mobile backhaul.
“Powerful mobile devices and bandwidth-intensive applications are constantly reshaping the connectivity demands of today's consumer and business customers,” said Tarcisio Ribeiro, EVP of global sales at Coriant.
“Our smart router products are designed to help service providers like Telefónica Germany keep pace with dynamic traffic demands and rapidly introduce new high-value service offerings for their customers.”
