Alcatel-Lucent will provide its Velocix CDN platform which will support Wind in its launch of video and TV services for fixed and mobile subscribers.
It will also enable the operator’s customers to manage video traffic on Wind’s network; providing an optimised experience regardless of the device they use to access content.
“Wind chose Alcatel-Lucent’s innovative CDN platform for future-proof video content delivery and to better address customers’ expectations, anywhere with any device, either fixed or mobile, smartphones, tablets, notebooks or smart TVs,” said Nicola Grassi, CTO at Wind.
Alcatel-Lucent’s research arm, Bell Labs, estimates that online video consumption will have increased twelve-fold by 2020, and the vendor believes its Velocix platform will enable Wind to keep up with this growing demand.
“Our Velocix CDN platform puts service providers such as Wind in an ideal position to capitalise on growing consumer demand for high-quality video and rich media content delivered over both fixed and wireless broadband connections,” said Roberto Loiola, CEO and MD at Alcatel-Lucent Italia.
“It provides them all the tools they need to launch premium content services that generate new revenues, while lowering costs and providing supreme delivery performance.”
Alcatel-Lucent is in the process of being bought out by Finnish vendor Nokia Networks in a €15.6 billion deal.
