The fibre optic link is expected to be in operation by May 2016, under a contract the data centre operator has signed with Finland’s Cinia Group.
The system will provide a total transmission capacity of 15Tbps and, according to Hetzer Online, will play a key role in providing reliable and secure broadband connections for cloud and data centre applications.
Martin Hetzner, CEO of Hetzner Online, said the cable provides the company with a broadband and latency optimised connection between a future data centre location in the Nordic region and the Central European internet infrastructure in Frankfurt.
“In view of its very favourable climatic conditions and low energy prices, Finland is also of interest to Hetzner Online as a possible data centre location,” the company added.
