Nokia Networks reveals SON solution

Nokia Networks has launched a self-organising networks (SON) functionality, following the acquisition of Eden Rock in May this year.

Nokia Eden-NET combines Eden Rock’s SON technology with Nokia Network’s iSON manager in one solution, and is part of Nokia’s enhanced focus on multivendor SON capabilities.

The solution is designed to help operators simplify and improve the agility and efficiency of their network operations.

“Nokia Networks has underscored its intent to fast-track the evolution of self-aware, cognitive networks. We can now provide the best SON capabilities and expertise to help operators run their fast-evolving networks,” said Peter Patomella, VP of CEM and OSS at Nokia Networks.

“They can accelerate their operations automation with available, proven SON modules and can also create new ones to address specific needs. We are extremely pleased to be able to offer the most advanced SON solution to our customers and accelerate our own innovation towards truly personalised experiences.”

Nokia claims to offer the broadest portfolio if SON modules and expects the solution to boost industry-wide SON innovation.

“Mobile network operators must cope with dynamic network environments that tax traditional planning and optimisation approaches,” said Ken Rehbehn, principal analyst at 451 Research.

“Open SON frameworks offer operators an important toolkit enabling agile responses to changing network patterns.”
