The trial is said to mark the first use of 40G TWDM PON technology in Bahrain, which is designed to support growing customer demand for higher bandwidth.
The move builds on a longstanding collaboration between Huawei and Batelco, which saw the two companies first trial 10G GPON technology in 2010.
"The availability of 40Gbps will help to ensure that Batelco's investment in its fibre network is future proof, through the integration of the company's existing GPON 2.5G and 10G technologies with the future expansions, as it provides a transmission platform that will allow several technologies to co-exist in parallel,” said Batelco Bahrain’s acting CEO Muna Al Hashemi.
