The deal will create an Armenian company that offers a range of fixed and mobile services. Ucom claims to be building the largest new generation fiber optic network (FTTH) in the country.
The operator had said that although Orange Armenia has made significant progress in subscriber numbers and profitability, it still does not have the necessary scale required to provide convergent services.
The sale is part of Orange’s ‘Essentials 2020’ plan to focus on convergent services, combining mobile and fixed networks.
Orange Armenia was established in 2009, following the acquisition of its telecoms licence. The Armenian unit had 630,000 customers and 500 employees at the end of 2014.
