BT trials Huawei’s G.fast technology in the UK

BT has conducted a large-scale customer trial of Huawei’s G.fast technology.

The technology was deployed on BT’s existing FTTC infrastructure in order to offer ultra-broadband services.

The trial took place in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, and saw Huawei deploy its multi-port G.fast equipment in a manhole. It also provided a headend optical line terminal (OLT), G.fast terminal and a network management system.

The trial is said to pave the way for wider G.fast commercial deployment.

Last September, BT completed several field trials which demonstrated ultra-fast broadband delivered over a combination of both fibre and copper networks. The UK operator has also launched a lab at its Adastral Park R&D centre in Ipswich, specifically tailored towards these ultra-fast broadband services.
