Through the facility, zColo is said to provide colocation and interconnection services for Zayo’s customers, including content and gaming providers.
“Customers have embraced this new data centre with the extensive interconnection capability we have built,” said Stephanie Copeland, president of Zayo’s zColo.
“This is evidenced by the support of key anchor customers out of the gate, plus strong follow-on demand in the short period since. Miami is a vibrant and growing market, and an important Latin American gateway for many companies. We have provided a differentiated option in the market.”
According to Zayo, the data centre is near capacity after 18 months of operation and has been a key source of growth for zColo. The business has reportedly achieved a greater than 35% unlevered return on its initial Miami facility investment, based on contracted revenue from bookings to date.
The centre was designed by Zayo as a key interconnection hub, with Netflix and Host.net to form the Florida internet exchange (FL-IX). The company claims the latest exchange will enable content providers, ISPs and enterprises to exchange traffic in an open and transparent environment.
In July, Zayo announced the extension of its fibre-to-the-tower (FTT) footprint in Nashville, Tennessee in the US. The move will see the company extend its existing 120 route mile network to 147 new towers.
