The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) is already planning to hold a 4G auction of 1800MHz spectrum on November 11, and the auction date for spectrum in the 900MHz band has now been moved from December 15 to November 12.
“We want to move faster for the country’s benefit, so that Thailand can compete with other countries,” Takorn Tantasith, NBTC secretary general, told a news conference.
Both 4G auctions were hit by delays last year when the military government came into power.
The NBCT hopes the auctions will strengthen the country’s mobile infrastructure and internet network. 4G services are due to be rolled out next year once licences have been issued next month.
AIS, True Move, dtac and state-owned TOT will participate in the auction, alongside newcomer Jasmine International.
CAT Telecom pulled out of the auction last month having failed to secure a foreign partner.
