The fine was imposed upon Telefonica’s Pegaso, Mexico’s seconded largest mobile player, and the amount is said to be the largest in the IFT’s two year history.
The IFT was brought in as part of the country’s telecoms reform designed to lower prices and improve the quality of telecoms services across Mexico, as well as reign in the power of Carlos Slim’s America Movil.
The IFT panel allegedly voted 5-2 for the fine and Pegaso has 15 days to contest the decision.
