Bouygues Telecom trials VoLTE service

Bouygues Telecom trials VoLTE service

France’s Bouygues Telecom has launched what it claims to be the country’s first voice over LTE (VoLTE) trial.

The trial includes 5,000 customers – 700 of which are corporate subscribers – and is designed to enable voice calls to be made over Bouygues Telecom’s LTE network.

Bouygues Telecom said that the trial is expected to enable customers to benefit from HD voice call quality as well as the ability to download content during a voice call.

Bouygues Telecom joined forces with Ericsson in May 2014 for the upgrade of its 4G network in preparation for the launch of VoLTE services, at which point they also announced that they would launch a VoLTE trial at the end of 2014.

The French operator has now said that VoLTE services will be made available to all eligible customers in 2016.

Earlier this month, Bouygues Telecom was successful in France’s 4G spectrum auction.
