Transtelecom selects Ekinops for 100G network upgrade

Transtelecom has selected Ekinops’ 100G DWDM optical transport equipment for the upgrade of its nationwide optical network in Kazakhstan.

Transtelecom owns more than 13,000km of fibre-optic cable in Kazakhstan – primarily along railway lines – and wanted to increase its backbone capacity in the country, as well as its ability to carry capacity from China to Russia.

Low-latency is a major requirement for serving customers in China, and Transtelecom said that the Ekinops solution was able to meet this demand.

“Ekinops promised quick deployment – and delivered. This is not trivial as the environment was quite challenging across long distances and extreme weather conditions,” said Saken Baituganov, executive commerce director at Transtelecom.

“The network is now live and carrying customer traffic and our customers are very happy.”

Kazakhstan is strategically located between China and Russia, as well as onto Western Europe, and provides an alternative route to the subsea cables connecting the region.

“Vast amounts of data are being transported from China to the West and we are very proud to help Transtelecom in this project,” said Francois Xavier Ollivier, COO at Ekinops.

“The expected growth in capacity in that region is very large and our scalable platform is fully designed to support this growth.”
