Foreign companies submit applications for Myanmar's licence

Seven foreign companies are said to have submitted applications for Myanmar’s fourth mobile licence.

The foreign company will be a minority shareholder in a joint venture with a consortium of 11 local companies, led by state-owned Yatanarpon Teleport (YTP). Named Myanmar National Telecom, the consortium will own a 51% stake in the venture while the international partner with own 49% interest.

The government extended its original deadline for foreign operators to submit expressions of interest from December 18 2015 to January 8 2016.

Similar to Telenor and Ooredoo’s licences, the fourth licence will be valid for 15 years and can be renewed for an additional 10 years.
