BT's wholesale chief resigns

BT’s CEO of wholesale business Nigel Stagg is stepping down after 36 years at the company.

Stagg, who is said to be exploring other options, has been in charge of BT’s wholesale unit since 2011. He has held several marketing, purchasing and product management roles earlier in his career before taking on more senior positions in the company, including director of BT Conferencing, managing director of BT Enterprises, managing director of retail customer service and managing director of BT business.

“Nigel has made a terrific contribution over many years. He has brought a wealth of commercial and operational skills and experience to all the roles he has held and he has helped us propel the company forwards. I’d like to thank him on behalf of the company and I wish him all the very best for the future,” said Gavin Patterson, CEO of BT.

BT’s wholesale unit generated £2.2 billion of revenue in 2014/15 and EBITDA of £561 million. Stagg’s successor is expected to be announced in due course.

Earlier this month, the group appointed its present chief information officer Clive Selley to lead Openreach, replacing outgoing Joe Garner who resigned to become CEO of Nationwide Building Society.
