Named Objenious, the unit will provide a range of B2B and B2B3C services aimed at addressing needs in vehicle fleet management, remote metre reading, predictive maintenance and geolocation over its existing LoRa network. The network is presently rolled out across 15 metro areas in France and is expected to cover 50% of its population by mid-2016.
"We have signed partnerships with some of France's leading IoT players. Major industrial groups of course, but also start-ups that are making their mark, either in sensors or business applications," said Stéphane Allaire, Chairman of Objenious. "We have thus become a key player based on a national LoRa network and an IoT platform that is now ready to host our customers."
Several customers – ranging from French startup Wistiki and government bodies like the Chamber of Agriculture and local authority – are said to have signed up to the service.
Bouygues is part of the LoRa Alliance launched in 2015 that is aimed at standardising the lower power wide area networks (LPWAN) being deployed to enable the IoT and M2M ecosystem.
