The companies say that they achieved transmission speeds up to 70 gigabits a second on a 73 megahertz transmission frequency.
Bruno Jacobfeuerborn, CTO of the German operator, said: "5G requires network operators to offer ultra-high transmission for services capacity requirements. We will continue to engage the innovation and evaluate advanced technologies with the leading partners to bring 5G into reality."
The millimetre waveband has frequencies 100 times those used in many mobile networks – such as the 700 megahertz band that the mobile industry is gradually taking over from TV broadcasters.
Tong Wen, Huawei Wireless’s chief 5G scientist and CTO, said that the technology "can achieve unprecedented fibre-like speed for the mobile broadband access", and added: "With a customer-centric innovation in mind, Huawei will continue to push the technology envelope jointly with our customer to deliver best-in-class 5G solutions."
