Zayo appoints CTO and general counsel

Zayo has announced that Dave Jones and Wendy Cassity will take on roles as CTO and general counsel respectively, effective immediately.

Jones will be in charge of the overall technical direction of the company and Zayo’s various product groups to execute this strategy. He is also responsible for cyber security and the enterprise IT infrastructure, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.

“Dave is already among Zayo’s strongest leaders and will have a broader platform to apply his vision for how we leverage technology in global markets, including a continued focus on the highest standards of cyber security,” said Dan Caruso, chairman and CEO of Zayo.

Jones has more than 25 years of experience in the wireless and broadband industries. He previously served as executive president of Zayo’s dark fibre solutions business segment and as senior vice president of Zayo’s mobile infrastructure product group. Prior to joining Zayo, Jones was senior vice president of Network Services at FibreTower Corporation.

Cassity succeeds Scott Beer, who left the company at the end of 2015, and will be responsible for legal and compliance functions, including: mergers and acquisitions, capital markets and financing transactions, regulatory compliance, corporate governance, and crisis and risk management.

“I joined Zayo because its mission is to accelerate the capabilities of the most innovative companies in the world by providing them with vast quantities of low cost bandwidth. Zayo is making a difference, and I wanted to be part of the team,” said Cassity.

Before joining Zayo, Cassity was vice president and general counsel of Thompson Creek Metals Company, a publicly-traded mining company, and in private practice at McDermott Will & Emery LLP and Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP in New York, primarily focused on M&A and securities.

“Both of these leaders bring the right talent and experience to Zayo as we move into the next chapter of global growth,” added Caruso.

Zayo continues to invest heavily in fibre and made two major acquisitions in November, snapping up European telecoms provider Viatel and Canadian fibre-optic firm Allstream.
