The Saudi operator has selected Juniper Networks to expand its fixed and mobile IP backbone, using the vendor’s PTX5000 Series Packet Transport Routers
The companies claim the move creates the largest IP backbone in the region, which aims to provide ultra-high speed internet access to 3G, 4G and fixed subscribers
The increase in capacity also targets international carriers looking to serve domestic and international customers in the region.
"We invest in our network to stay ahead of our customers' ever increasing expectations for more bandwidth and new applications and services. Juniper's innovative technologies allow us to maintain our market leadership and future-proof our business through the deployment of state-of-the-art technologies,” said Nasser Al Nasser, senior vice president for technology and operations at STC.
“This is an impressive leap forward in network capacity and performance to meet customer expectations."
Earlier in the week, STC and OpenStack company Mirantis entered into a partnership to deliver public cloud services on its platform.
