The NGN gigabit speed and high capacity bandwidth will leverage Oman Broadband’s fibre network and aims to boost services through integration, connecting over 60 Ministries in one platform.
“Being chosen from a field of experienced and expert telecoms companies to build the backbone for Oman’s e-government strategy is an honour and a testament to the drive and ambition of Ooredoo, as we establishes ourselves as the Government of Oman’s telecommunications partner of choice,” said Greg Young, Ooredoo’s CEO.
The Omani government has set a vision of transforming the country into a knowledge-based country by 2020. It is investing in a next generation high speed network, boosting local capacities, to facilitate more efficient interaction between local communities, businesses and the government.
ITA’s CEO, Salim bin Sultan Al Ruzaiqi, added: “This agreement is a breakthrough in elevating and improving Oman’s Government Network (OGN), in line with the e.oman strategy’s aim to adapt to the rapid change in technology.”
In 2015, Ooredoo witnessed the completion of its 5,50km independent nationwide fibre backbone, which has enabled it to offer cost-efficient and high-speed services across Oman.
