Telefónica México appoints CEO and executive chairman

Telefónica has announced that Carlos Morales Paulin will become CEO and executive chairman of its Mexican business.

Paulin, who joined in 2003, will take over from Francisco Gil Diaz, who is stepping down from the role at the end of June to become a non-executive director, Telefónica said in a statement.

He was most recently global managing director for machine-to-machine (M2M). He has also held a number of senior roles including vice president of operations at Telefônica Brasil and director of marketing at Telefónica Spain.

Diaz, a former Mexican finance minister, is credited with aiding the company’s growth, which today has more than 26 million customers nationwide.
