The cable group – the owner of Poland’s largest cable operator UPC – is said to be in talks to acquire Multimedia in a potential merger that could launch a business covering half of the Polish cable market.
According to a source of Reuters, Multimedia’s owners are seeking to raise at least nine times EBITDA “which may prove hard to swallow for any potential buyer”.
Multimedia has been available to acquire since its owners and co-chairmen Tomek Ulatowski and Ygal Ozechov delisted the group the group in 2011. The company posted an adjusted core profit of 350 million zlotys at the end of 2015.
Liberty Global is reportedly also interested in Play – the second largest operator in Poland, which is said to be up for sale. Play has over 14 million users and covers 25% of the Polish mobile market.
