SmarTone Telecommunications appoints Anna Yip as chief executive officer

SmarTone Telecommunications, the Hong Kong mobile carrier, has appointed Anna Yip as chief executive officer. She previously ran the Hong Kong and Macau operations of MasterCard Asia/Pacific.

Yip took over at the company on June 16, replacing Stephen Chau Kam-kun whook who was the interim chief executive.

Chau remains as an executive director and the chief technology officer (CTO) at SmarTone.

Before joining MasterCard, Yip was managing director of corporate planning and international strategy at United Overseas Bank in Singapore. Before that she was a partner with McKinsey & Company in Greater China where she led the asiapayments practice and co-led the Asia Financial Institutional Group.
