That total includes 1.4 million customers that Altice took on last December when it bought control of another US cable company, Suddenlink, from private equity investors.
Patrick Drahi, founder and controlling shareholder of Altice, said: “The completion of the Cablevision acquisition marks a critical step in the development of the Altice group. Altice USA is a key pillar of our business and a powerful and dynamic growth platform.”
Altice is the second largest French operator behind Orange, owning mobile operator SFR and cable business Numericable. It also owns Portugal Telecom, bought from Brazilian operator Oi in 2015, as well as businesses in Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Israel, the Dominican Republic and elsewhere.
“We will accelerate network investments and bring innovative products and services to US customers by leveraging our global operational expertise, scale and resources,” said Drahi.
Altice has appointed Dexter Goei as CEO of Altice USA. “Our immediate focus is on integrating our businesses within Altice, fostering their development through innovation and investment, and delivering on our plans to enhance the customer experience,” said Goei.
