Deutsche Telekom eyeing €5bn towers sale

Deutsche Telekom is purportedly looking to sell off its German mobile mast portfolio for a rumoured €5 billion ($5.5bn).

The reason for selling thousands of German mobile phone masts in its tower infrastructure? To free up funds and to reinvest in its European networks, sources told Reuters. Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley have been appointed to organise an auction being planned for this coming autumn.

Depending on prospective buyer feedback, Deutsche Telekom will make a decision on whether it will be a wholesale disposal of the entire tower portfolio or just a stake in the business.

The report comes after a stream of Deutsche Telekom announcements, which includes: Claudia Nemat is to head a new operation and lead a virtualisation drive and Deutsche Telekom has also teamed up with SK Telecom and Ericsson to deploy what they claim to be the world's first transcontinental 5G trial network.
