Bharti Airtel has announced the expansion of its 4G network in Bangalore by launching 4G on FD-LTE technology in 1800 the MHz spectrum band.
This is in addition to the existing 4G services in the city which have been launched using TD-LTE in the 2300 MHz band.
Airtel is trying to assure a good mobile broadband experience to customers by making investments in both TD-FD 4G technologies.
The main benefit of making these investments in dual spectrum bands, it hopes, is better network coverage and faster data delivery to customers.
Airtel’s 4G services in the 2300 Mhz band using the TD-LTE standard are available from 2012.
C Surendran, CEO, Bharti Airtel said: “We gave the city its first 4G network and have received a very good response from customers. Given the growth of mobile data services and content consumed on mobiles, the addition of a second 4G carrier will add to the experience of the customers on our network.”
Bharti Airtel claims that it has the widest 4G network in Karnataka with services now available in 130 towns.
