The new ship, called Ulisse, was adapted from a flat-topped barge at a Singapore shipyard at a cost of €20 million. Ulisse joins Prysmian’s fleet of two other ships, Giulio Verne and Cable Enterprise.
Massimo Battaini, Prysmian senior vice president, said: “Thanks to this new vessel we can offer an ever wider and more versatile range of installation services, thus strengthening our position in a highly strategic sector for the group.”
Meanwhile Prysmian has announced that it will open two new plants for the production of telecommunications and data cables in Europe. The plants are being built as extensions on existing factories located in Slatina, Romania, and Presov, Slovakia and will be opened shortly.
Both plants will be the biggest in Europe for their category once they reach full capacity at the beginning of 2017.
