The two firms first began working together in June 2015, launching network and data centre services in Hong Kong. The expanded partnership will see PCCW bring Alibaba Cloud’s anti-DDoS products to international businesses.
The products on offer will include protection against complex layer 7 application-level attacks, monitoring tools and real-time threat visibility.
“We are pleased to be playing a role in extending Alibaba Cloud’s capabilities to new markets. The relationship with Alibaba Cloud is a remarkable opportunity to provide our combined customers with the very best in data security, customer-service quality, and network coverage," said Marc Halbfinger, chief executive officer of PCCW Global.
“Adding Alibaba Cloud’s security products to our threat identification systems will offer enterprises a holistic perspective of complete security needs.”
Alibaba Cloud’s track record of preventing DDoS attacks includes processing a peak order volume of over 140,000 orders per second during Alibaba Group’s 11.11 Global Shopping Festival last year.
It also protected a gaming app company from what I claims is one of the largest cyber-attacks in history in December 2014. The anti-DDoS tools prevented the 14-hour long attack despite peak attacking traffic of 453.8Gbps.
A DDoS attack occurs when multiple systems are used to flood the access capacity of a targeted system, causing an overload.
Sicheng Yu, vice president of Alibaba Group and general manager of Alibaba Cloud Global, added: “We are excited to deepen our strategic cooperation with PCCW Global. It is a great collaboration to empower both of our customers in Hong Kong and Asia by leveraging Alibaba Cloud’s robust cloud security capability and PCCW Global’s expertise in international network.”
