Claure, who will begin his one-year term on January 1, 2017, will seek to bring the wireless industry together to expand connectivity for millennials and focus on the delivery of 5G.
“We work in the most exciting industry in the world, and one that contributes tremendously to people and businesses throughout the country,” said Claure.
“It’s an honour to lead CTIA during such an important time. The wireless industry must come together so that we deliver on the tremendous promise of 5G and other innovative technologies. Expanding connectivity to those who need it also will be a key opportunity to explore because I’m a huge believer in how much of a difference this can make in the lives of young people.”
Claure will be joined on the 2017 CTIA board of directors by Kenneth Meyers, vice chairman (US Cellular president and CEO); Tim Baxter, secretary (Samsung Electronics America president and chief operating officer); Bret Comolli, treasurer (Asurion chairman) and, Glenn Lurie, chairman of Emeritus (AT&T mobility and consumer operations president and CEO).
