Hooq appoints ex-Telstra exec as Singapore manager

Video company Hooq has appointed former Telstra executive Michael D’Oliveiro to run its new TV and movie service in Singapore.

Singtel launched the service, seen as a competitor to Netflix and other over-the-top (OTT) services, in Singapore last month. Hooq is already running on a number of other networks in the region, all via operators in which Singtel has an interest.

D’Oliveiro will be Hooq’s country manager for Singapore, the company said. “With his over 18 years of diverse experience in the broadcast and telecommunications industry, we are sure that he will uncover new business opportunities here” said Peter Bithos, CEO of Hooq.

Singapore-born D’Oliveiro developed, launched and managed Telstra’s first business-to-business portfolio of online video products for use outside of Australia. He held global profit-and-loss responsibilities working with customers from the UK to Australia and Singapore.

Earlier D’Oliveiro was part of the core consumer product management team at Malaysian pay-TV company Astro, where he helped develop and manage its early OTT products.
