The deal will see the Finnish vendor deploy and expand Vodafone’s 4G services in 10 Indian circles, according to the Economic Times, citing people familiar with the matter.
Vodafone acquired 4G capable spectrum across the 1800, 2100 and 2500 MHz bands during last year’s spectrum auction, costing the UK-based operator RS 20,280 crore.
It has already deployed 4G in 17 of India’s 22 telecom circles, but this deal will see it expand services in Kolkata, Mumbai, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu-Chennai, Haryana, UP East, West Bengal, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir, according to the ET report.
It is the second Vodafone contract to have been won by Nokia this year, and the third in as many months, after Vodafone India signed a multi-year managed services contract with the vendor. The agreement is believed to have been worth around $210 million.
Vodafone has also struck a number of deals with Chinese vendor Huawei, worth about $220 million, for managed services in India. Huawei is also supplying 4G base stations for Vodafone in Karnataka, Kerala and Delhi, according to reports.
