Zayo to deploy new dark fibre route

Zayo has started constructing a new, long-haul dark fibre network connecting Portland and Umatilla, Oregon.

The network expansion will add more than 250 route miles along the Hood River corridor in Oregon, which has become a data centre hub for major content companies and carriers.

Construction of the route began in January and will be fully underground, supported by five ILA sites, providing secure, low-latency connectivity. The anchor tenant will partially fund the construction of the route.

“This new network will provide our anchor customer with low-latency bandwidth along a highly strategic route, which they can ‘light up’ as they scale,” said Dennis Kyle, senior vice president, dark fibre solutions, Pacific Northwest region at Zayo. “It’s not surprising given the strategic importance of this route that we already have a robust funnel of sales opportunities.”

Last November, Zayo entered into an agreement and plan of merger to acquire a 100% equity stake in Electric Lightwave for $1.42 billion. Last month Zayo Group announced that it was to issue $800 million in senior notes ahead of the takeover, which is expected to close at the end of Q1 2017.

The communications infrastructure provider has this week revealed it made $506.7 million of consolidated revenue in Q2 of its 2017 fiscal year and announced that Steven N. Kaplan and Emily White are to be appointed to the company’s Board of directors, effective 1 April, 2017.
