LTE-M is one of the three industry standards for low-powered, wide area network (LPWAN) announced last year, and is expected to play a key role in the growth of IoT.
AT&T said its network is now live across the US following a number of software upgrade, with plans to deploy in Mexico by the end of 2017, giving it an LTE-M footprint cover more than 400 million people across North America.
“Our nationwide LTE-M deployment is another example of AT&T’s continued investment and leadership in IoT,” said Chris Penrose, president, IoT Solutions, AT&T.
“We can now reach new places and connect new things at a price that’s more affordable than ever before. Our LTE-M starter kit will also spur developers to open the doors to IoT innovation.”
LTE-M, or Long-Term Evolution for Machines, aims to offer low powered solutions for large-scale IoT deployments, such as smart city services or smart metering, along with Narrowband IoT and EC-GSM-IoT, which is for 2G networks.
