Mauricio Flores, the former sub-director of IP network engineering for Telefónica Mexico, has been named as the new chief operating officer for McAllen Data Center (MDC).

“I know first-hand what is required from the carrier’s perspective and I plan to use this comprehension to help produce better products and services for MDC customers,” said Flores. “Over the past years, I have been focused on Mexico, its regulatory environment, and complex networks."

Flores’ extensive knowledge of the Mexican telecoms sector, his new responsibilities include overseeing and managing the company’s operations, engineering and customer service, with a focus on driving growth for the company on the border.

“Mauricio brings substantial experience in the Mexican telecom industry acquired over the past two decades,” said Juan Salazar, McAllen Data Center CEO. “He has a proven record as a trusted leader in the industry and has been a long time personal friend. His experience with Telefónica perfectly aligns him with McAllen Data Center’s expansion plans.”

With over 20 years' experience in telecoms, Flores first joined Telefónica Mexico in 2009. In his most recent role as sub-director of IP network engineering, Flores was responsible for engineering, implementation and operation of fixed mobile and digital services for both B2C and B2B customers.

"He has an intimate understanding of the Mexican market and our business, a proven track record, and a passion for technology and the customer experience," added Salazar. “Mauricio will provide significant insight as the company strides forward with its vision to be the definitive solution for US-Mexico connectivity that empowers all carriers and content providers to connect on the border.“

The announcement comes almost a month after MDC launched two new data centres on the US-Mexico border, in line with the company’s strategy to increase its footprint of interconnection services in this region.
