During the unveiling at the event, the two companies focussed on six key areas for their new service offerings: Mobile Internet, unveiled its 5G, Internet of Things (IoT), smart home, smart education, big video, and terminal services.
For the 5G NR IoDT test ZTE, China Mobile and Qualcomm demonstrated the test using ZTE’s 5G NR pre-commercial base stations and Qualcomm Technologies' 5G NR UE prototype. This was done at China Mobile’s 5G Innovation Center Lab, and was broadcast live to the conference. In general, 5G NR has the potential to support future mobile broadband experience (such as HD video streaming, and immersive Virtual/Augmented Reality), as well as high reliability and low latency services such as self-driving cars, UAVs, and industrial control.
The 5G Experience Car allows users to watch 5G live programs and enjoy 5G high-bandwidth VR videos in a high-speed moving scenario, and view test data of the 5G network in real time, such as the rate, wireless coverage, throughput, mobility, and delay. At the event this was stimulated through a two-way interactive live broadcasting between the booth and a 5G experience car in the Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center (HEMC).
5G Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) can smoothly transmit HD images to the cloud without losing picture quality and generate topographic maps using in a matter of seconds. Additionally the 5G UAV don’t deteriorate based on distance and can guarantee the communication of UAV-based logistics and disaster relief in the future.
As for 5G Wireless Access, fixed wireless access enables the quick and intact transmission of ultra HD images captured by hundred megapixel–level cameras. A 5G network can provide an ultra-high bandwidth of 500Mb for hundred megapixel–level cameras with an ultra-low delay of just a few milliseconds.
5G Submarine is an autonomous submarine that simulates a scenario where marine researchers observe sea creatures with the VR technology over a 5G network, conduct scientific investigations and stop the leakage of oil pipelines by remotely controlling underwater vehicles, demonstrating the potential of 5G in industrial control, scientific research, rescue, and disaster relief.
ZTE partnered with China Mobile on the 5G VR cloud game which shows VR cloud games based on the 5G Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) architecture. On the architecture the components are orchestrated on demand for users' access to the virtual world.
ZTE and China Mobile have been long term partners with each other. In 2016 the two signed a partnership where to promote a management and orchestration (MANO) interoperability test (IOT) across key industry vendors to ease network function virtualisation (NFV) adoption, in the same year the two claimed the world’s largest NFV network. In June of this year, China Mobile deployed ZTE’s pre-5G 3D massive MIMO solution to hit record commercial speeds of 2.1Gbps.
