Shanbhag holds more than 27 years of experience in the telecoms and technology industries, joining Coriant from Teya Ventures, a consulting firm where he was founder and director. Prior to this, he was VP of sales at FixStream Networks, while he also spent an eight-year stint as an SVP at Comviva Technologies.
Other previous roles include a stint at Covansys, a consulting and technology services company offering application development and maintenance outsourcing and integration services, where he successfully developed and led a telecom R&D, product customization and professional services business across three continents and generated revenue with over 40 percent profitability.
Shanbhag said: “India is a very dynamic environment and is driving innovation in core telecom infrastructure such as 5G technology. For example, 5G represents an enormous leap forward in capacity and speed for its solid base of 300 million connected users that are currently driving data capacity requirements.
“This supports the company’s next-generation technologies, as well as its growing network of technology partners that enable Coriant to provide industry-leading, end-user services and applications including: 5G, IoT, Cloud and the Industrial Internet. With that, I am excited to lead Coriant’s initiatives in India and throughout the region.”
Shanbhag’s appointment comes on the heels of Coriant’s agreement with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, India’s largest telecom provider, which enables the two entities to jointly fast track the development of 5G and IoT technology infrastructure for India’s growing base of connected citizens.
In his new role, Shanbhag will based in Coriant’s Gurgaon, India offices, and will report directly to Coriant’s chief customer officer Homayoun Razavi.
