LON3 sits on the site of the disused Truman brewery and adds 1,800 square metres of data centre space to Interxion’s portfolio. The site also hosts Interxion’s LON1 and LON2 facilities, boasting over 90 connectivity providers on the campus.
Customers who take up space in the new LON3 facility will be able to choose from 90 connectivity providers, eight content delivery networks, and interconnection with over 350 businesses collocated on the campus.
The Truman Brewery was once the largest brewery in the world with an annual production of 400,000 barrels by 1853, but closed in 1989. The site is situated between London’s Square Mile and Tech City, offering a diverse location away from the financial centre of Canary Wharf.
The Interxion campus is already host to LINX and LONAP, and includes private network access to the likes of Azure, Amazon Web Services, and CityCloud via Cloud Connect.
At the launch, Interxion CEO David Ruberg thanked the company’s staff for its work in launching a number of new facilities, including LON3 and MRS2 in Marseille.
Ruberg said: “I want to talk to our customers and to our employees. We’ve been very successful and the company is in expansion mode, driven by customer demand. We’re increasing our space and power by approximately 30%. There is a massive growth in data and the need to process it, and that continues to fundamentally change the way we work and live. The big difference today is that the technology comes to you.
“London as a centre of financial services is a very strong community where participants derive great value from being located in close proximity to one another within our data centres, and all of our customers benefit from the strong community interest we have developed in a connectivity centre.
“Today we celebrate the launch of our LON3 data centre, and it’s also an opportunity for me to thank you, our customers, and offer my sincere appreciation for all the employees who have brought this to fruition.”
Other speakers including Interxion UK MD Andrew Fray; Theo Blackwell, who is chief digital officer for London; Emma Fryer who is associate director at TechUK; and Russ Shaw, founder of London Tech Advocates. Interxion’s LON3 facility is due to go live later this year.
