DE-CIX has launched a new enabled site at the Equinix data centre located in the German city of Dusseldorf, its fourth in the Rhine metropolis area.

The internet exchange operator will offer its services – which include the likes of GlobePEER, GlobePEER Remote, and DirectCLOUD in the Dusseldorf facility, meaning Equinix customers need just a cross-connect to connect to DE-CIX Dusseldorf and Frankfurt.

DE-CIX Dusseldorf now offers services on location to over 50 networks – a growth of over 180% compared with the end of 2017.

The site, established in 2015, is one of five DE-CIX locations in Germany – the others are Munich, Hamburg, Berlin, and Frankfurt – with 13 altogether worldwide. The Frankfurt facility is the largest internet exchange in the world, DE-CIX claims, with over 6.4tb of data throughput per second.

"We are delighted to continue expanding our collaboration with DE-CIX. This is a tremendous win for us and we are pleased to bring DE-CIX closer to its customers not only in Frankfurt and Munich, but also in Düsseldorf,” Donald Badoux, managing director of Equinix Germany GmbH.

It is the latest expansion in German for DE-CIX this year, after announcing additional presence in Munich in July by launching services in a data centre in the Bavarian capital owned by EMC HostCo. It also boosted its presence in Frankfurt at the Keppel DC Frankfurt 1 facility, offering premium interconnection services.

DE-CIX chief innovation officer Thomas King said: “We are continuing on the road to expansion in our Dusseldorf location. Since the beginning of the year, we have been able to extend our services to three further data centres.

“Overall, we have had enormous success with our strong focus on the German locations - alongside our flagship Frankfurt - Munich, Hamburg and Dusseldorf. Our customer numbers especially in these locations have grown by at least 100 percent.”
