The company has expanded into the region with a point of presence (PoP) in the Teraco CPt1 facility bringing its total presence in Africa to four locations. Its other sites include Teraco JB1 in Johannesburg, South Africa, East Africa Data Centre in Nairobi, Kenya and Djibouti Data Centre in Djibouti.
Hurricane Electric currently operates one of the largest IPv4 and IPv6 backbones and vast peering points globally. To date the company connect 7196 IP networks (ASNs) over IPv4 and 4461 IP networks over IPv6. In addition, its strong open peering policy is currently present in 191 internet exchange points (IXPs) as well as offering IP transit or peering to roughly 8015 ASNs.
In Africa, Hurricane Electric peers openly on Johannesburg Internet Exchange (JINX), NAP Africa IX Johannesburg, NAP Africa IX Cape Town, Kenya Internet Exchange Point (KIXP) and Djibouti Internet Exchange (DjIX).
According TechdotAfrica Hurricane Electric is considering expanding into three other African cities in the near future: Lagos - Nigeria, Durban - South Africa and Kampala - Uganda.
The new PoP at the neutral, network-dense carrier HKCOLO facility, located at 8/F Sino Favour Centre, 1 On Yip Street, Chai Wan, Hong Kong, is the latest expansion of one of the world’s largest IPv6 internet backbones and will provide needed connectivity for the region’s growing internet economy.
