Moratelindo is developing a nationwide fibre optic network to support the Indonesian government’s pledge to ensure broadband access for the country’s growing 267 million-strong population. The network will include the new subsea cable system, named Jayabaya.
Jayabaya is a high-speed subsea cable system connecting Java Island’s Surabaya with Indonesian capital Jakarta in three stages. The stages will run from Jakarata to Cirebon, Cirebon to Semarang, and finally Semarang to Surabaya, spanning 915km altogether.
The cable system will use Nexans’ 24-core unrepeatered design, with extra protection nearer shorelines to offer defence against ships and fishing activities.
The cable was constructed at the Nexans facility in Rognan, Norway, with installation expected to be complete by the end of this month.
