The new PoP, which is in MDC’s carrier neutral data centre, is Sparkle’s fourth in Texas, adding to existing PoPs in McAllen, Dallas, and Laredo. Sparkle said it will boost the company’s reach on the US-Mexico border.
The PoP acts as a strategic interconnection hub for networks and content providers on that border. For Sparkle, it will also help boost the performance of its global IP Transit service, Seabone, by boosting diversification and redundancy.
Sparkle said the new PoP in El Paso allows it to provide to OTTs, ISPs, content and application providers located in Central America with high-quality IP services including lower latency and improved traffic routing.
Sparkle will also offer a number of other products from the MDC Data Center facility in El Paso. These include its DDoS Attack Mitigation product, which allows customers to increase protection of their networks, including mitigating distributed denial of service attacks. It will also offer its Virtual NAP solution – which allows customer to access key IXPs without needing to build proprietary infrastructure – from the site.
Sparkle, which is the international arm of Telecom Italia (TIM), runs a backbone that spans around 530,000km of fibre across Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas.
