According to Data Economy, the news comes as the company says that the Esbjerg area will play a key role in providing ongoing connectivity to future data centre deployments in Denmark and the Nordics.
“Originally attracted by cold climate, inexpensive power and ease of doing business, the hyper scalers are now leveraging the Nordics as a strategic position to service Europe’s fast-growing need for sustainable digital infrastructure,” said Peder Nærbø, founder and chairman of Bulk Infrastructure AS.
Both Denmark and the Nordics continue to attract further investment with capital expenditure approaching close to $7 billion across the region.
“The Nordics as a data centre hotspot is increasingly being viewed as a highly strategic location where we are introducing massive new fibre connectivity to major European markets and back to the US and Asia. We are really excited about expanding our presence in Denmark from subsea fibre cables to now include a data centre,” adds Nærbø.
Bulk Infrastructure is part of the consortium of owner/operators for the HAVFRUE transatlantic subsea cable along with Aqua Comms and Facebook. The 7,200km cable will cross the North Atlantic connecting mainland Northern Europe to the US. The first new cable in the region for almost two decades.
“With multiple cable landings planned or already in place, and the landing of our new HAVFRUE trans-Atlantic cable system, this will bring both a convergence of networks and associated capacity to Esbjerg, together with creating a natural gateway into Bulk´s vast Nordic sustainable and cost-efficient digital infrastructure,” continued Nærbø.
Bulk approximately 10,000km of available dark fibre, which includes intercontinental and intra-Nordic infrastructure. In addition, the company has a data centre campus of over 1000MW capacity at its NO1 Campus in Vennesla, South Norway and a carrier hotel, Oslo Internet Exchange, located in the Oslo metro.
The company plans to co-build additional subsea cables into the North Sea with connectivity to the Esbjerg Gateway by the end of 2019.
