The new solution will sit as the most advanced tier of service for NTT Com customers using its Global IP Network (GIN) who are looking for full protection against distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks. It includes attack detection and auto-mitigation services.
NTT Com’s existing DPS Suite includes DPS Control, which is an entry-level tier intended for customers who don’t need full mitigation assistance; DPS Core, which offers full DDoS mitigation services; and DPS Detect, which provides advanced services including detection capabilities.
It has now also added DPS Max which will sit as the highest level of service, providing all of the features included in DPS Core and DPS Detect whilst also adding automatic mitigation capabilities. This means GIN customers can have DDoS attacks mitigated automatically by detecting and dealing with threats based on customer-defined thresholds.
The automation within DPS Max also means it can detect when an attack has ended and automatically end mitigation, returning customer traffic to their normal, pre-attack routing.
Customers who take up the DPS Max service will also have access to NTT Com’s network security team who looks after the firm’s GIN infrastructure, as well as access to its DPS Portal.
"The security and protection of our network and our customers' networks is a top priority for our company," said Michael Wheeler, executive vice president of the NTT Communications Global IP Network at NTT America.
"We are focused on providing a wide-ranging suite of services and tools for network security and protection, including mitigation of DDoS attacks and black hole filtering. DPS Max enhances our offering and gives customers more solution options and the opportunity to choose the level of support they need."
Cyber security has been a key area of focus for NTT Communications over the last few years. During a recent Q&A with Capacity, Wheeler said that multi-vector DDoS attacks, with multiple components, are becoming more common, highlighting the growing sophistication of attacks.
In a recent Security 2018 Global Threat Intelligence Report, NTT found that nearly 60% of the 1350 respondents view the internet of things a potential security threat to their organisations. Conversely, a recent Gartner report found that almost 20% of organisations experience at least one IoT-based attacks in the last three years. In addition, by 2020 Gartner predicts that IoT will play a part in more than 25% of all cyberattacks.
