Kepstar Data Centre is planning one unit in the capital, Phnom Penh, with a smaller centre for resilience to be added 100km away. Their total power will be 10MW and they will occupy 15,000 square metres between them.
The main data centre should be operational within 18 to 24 months, executive director Joseph Tang told Capacity on the sidelines of the Capacity Asia event in Hong Kong this week.
Tang is a former CFO of 8Telecom and records show he resigned from the company in July 2017.
The Cambodian government will use 25% of the data centre’s capacity, Tang said, as a condition of the licence, with another 25% already earmarked for financial services in the country. Kepstar will offer the remaining 50% on the commercial market.
