This strengthens Telefónica’s existing infrastructure in Mexico, which now boasts three international PoPs – two in Mexico City and one in Monterrey. This expansion builds on Telefónica’s existing network infrastructure in Latin America for corporate customers, the most extensive in the region.
The new PoP is located in KIO Networks’ Tier-III neutral data centre facilities. It includes double carrier-class routing equipment, making it possible to offer redundant solutions, and it is connected to Telefónica’s Tier-1 international network in the US and Mexico through 10Gbps links.
It additionally incorporates infrastructure which enables the deployment of network functions virtualisation (NFV), just as Telefónica already offers in other locations in the region, including Miami and Sao Paulo.
“This makes Telefónica well-placed to support the growing demand from its B2B customers for a variety of services across the country and the region,” said a company statement.
“It also facilitates closer collaboration with all its customers and providers to build even more robust and optimised solutions, bringing greater efficiency and more reliable connectivity to guarantee seamless delivery of their services.”
Telefónica has over 115 international PoPs, spanning 69 cities in 41 countries, and more than 1,000 MPLS national PoPs.
