The Bundesamts für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik (BSI, Federal Office for Information Security) told operators in Germany – Telefónica and Vodafone as well as Deutsche Telekom – that there are “currently no reliable findings”.
BSI president Arne Schönbohm said, according to Der Spiegel magazine: “For such serious decisions as a ban you need evidence.”
According to Der Spiegel, Huawei has a lab in Bonn – the city where Deutsche Telekom is based – so that customers can test hardware and software, including source code. Schönbohm said he wished other suppliers would do the same.
He told Der Speigel that he would warn German telcos if the BSI found evidence that Chinese equipment had security risks.
