The news comes as the IX in the world to offer this next-gen technology and is in direct response from customers for more data capacity.

At the same time, we support the growth of our customers at our worldwide locations with the new technology. Because the more data traffic they can exchange over us, the more the investment in our services will pay off.”
The new offering is being delivered through the DE-CIX Apollon platform, which uses Nokia routers as one of its core components. At present, the new Nokia 400GE line cards are only available at DE-CIX’s Frankfurt facility. In the mid-term DE-CIX plans on making this technology available some of its other locations. Overall, this new advancement will lead to few connections or cross-connects, which in turn will result in better cost efficiency.

To date the biggest connection capacity DE-CIX has been able to offer is 100GE, which was first introduced in 2013 and has been increasingly booked in recent years. As a result, in 2018, orders of 100GE ports at DE-CIX grew by almost 45% in comparison to 2017.
“Within the next few years, we expect the 400-GE access technology to become the new gold standard for customers with commensurate broadband needs,” concluded Eric Dorr, head of infrastructure at DE-CIX.
